Call for Papers

Don't forget to register for conference presentation or attendance! Registration has been extended until February 19!

The third annual interdisciplinary conference, “The Body Project,” organized by graduate students for their colleagues (including research assistants and post-docs) at the University of Missouri, is designed to promote student research from a wide range of fields, which focuses on conceptions of bodies: spatial, physical, symbolic, metaphysical, performative, animal. This free conference in which the work is peer-reviewed provides a wonderful professionalization opportunity for students at the University as well as the surrounding Columbia area colleges.

We welcome proposals for research or creative projects from graduate students or affiliated researchers in any field. For paper presentations (limited to 15 minutes) please submit a CV and an abstract of 300 words or less in either PDF or Word document format, 3-5 key words to be used as database search terms, along with any request for AV materials. Proposals may be for completed or ongoing research or literature reviews. We will also accept proposals for complete sessions, providing that you submit the title of the proposed panel and encourage panel participation which is interdisciplinary in nature. The website address for submissions is mugradbodyproject@missouri.edu and the deadline for proposals is February 19, 2010 at 5 pm.

In addition, we will be accepting proposals once again this year for a graduate plenary speaker. This speaker will be one of two for the conference, with the other spot reserved for a member of the faculty/staff of the university. Please submit a CV, an abstract of 500 words or less, and a letter of support from a faculty advisor in either PDF or Word document format for the proposed 40-minute presentation. An honorarium of $200 will be awarded to this plenary speaker. Deadline for submissions is also February 19, 2010 to mugradbodyproject@missouri.edu.

“The Body Project” is sponsored by the English Graduate Student Association in collaboration with the Center for Arts and Humanities, the College of Arts and Sciences, the Graduate School, MU Libraries, the International Center, the Graduate Student Association (GSA), and the Division of Biological Sciences.

A list of suggestions for session or research topics can be found here.
